On 08.11.2024 in the city A round table was held in Veliko Tarnovo on the topic "Business and Science in the Electrical Industry and ICT Sectors. Perspectives and challenges in the Veliko Tarnovo region". The event was jointly organized by the Bulgarian Association of Electrical Engineering and Electronics - BASEL, TPP-Veliko Tarnovo, the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria and the Competence Center "KVAZAR" at the Institute of Robotics of the BAS. The round table brought together more than 20 participants - representatives of business, academia and state institutions. The event was hosted by AK Plastronic AD. The event was attended by Julia Mutafchieva, deputy. regional governor of Veliko Tarnovo, who welcomed the participants.
The main topic in the discussions was the problem of attracting qualified staff from universities and vocational high schools, and it was noted that one of the basic reasons for the lack of trained employees is the insufficient prestige of engineering professions among young people, the outdated and non-corresponding teaching methods with the new generations. the insufficient promotion of technical specialties among students and parents, as well as the lack of a competitive start in the process of attracting students.
In order to change the negative trend, a closer interaction between companies, universities and vocational high schools is needed, emphasizing the excellent opportunities for realization, work on international innovation projects, acquisition of knowledge in high-tech fields. It is necessary to massively promote educational programs in the field of physics and mathematics, as well as to apply the system of dual education more and more widely.
After the official part, the participants had the opportunity to visit the production base of AK Plastronic AD, which is involved in the production of printed circuit boards, assembly and injection molding of plastic products.
