Sofia / Leipzig – Since 1995, the Leipzig Fair has had an official presence in Bulgaria and supports Bulgarian companies in accessing international markets. With its special focus on Central and Eastern Europe, the fair offers an ideal platform for developing international partnerships.
The Leipzig Fair is represented in Bulgaria by the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK Bulgarien), which has been coordinating and supporting the fair’s activities locally for 30 years as a reliable and experienced partner.
Today, October 10, 2025, in Sofia on the occasion of its 30th anniversary, GBITK is organizing a solemn event at which the CEO of BASEL, Eng. Orlin Dimitrov, was present. It was opened by the German Ambassador to Bulgaria, H.E. Irene Maria Planck, who emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation and cultural exchange between the two countries.
An exceptional example of this is the Z – Subcontracting Fair, which is held every two years in Leipzig. Since its first participation in 2000, Bulgaria has always been present with a joint stand. Since 2015, it has been organized independently by the Leipzig Fair’s Sofia branch – entirely with companies that finance their participation with their own funds.
Sonya Miklay, General Manager of GBITK, also emphasized the importance of the long-standing partnership:
“The Leipzig Fair is a reliable partner for the Bulgarian economy. With its strong international orientation and focus on economic relations, it creates real opportunities for Bulgarian companies. GBITK is pleased to celebrate this anniversary together with representatives of the fair and our members, and to deepen cooperation.”
“The Z – Subcontracting Fair has become a central forum for Bulgarian suppliers and international buyers,” she added. “We are particularly proud of our record participation this year: seven Bulgarian companies presented themselves at our joint stand, and two more – with individual stands.”
During the celebration, Peyo Serkedzhiev, owner and manager of LPS ENGINEERING LTD, was honored as the longest-standing Bulgarian exhibitor at the Z – Subcontracting Fair. For this contribution, Mr. Serkedzhiev received an honorary diploma from Mr. Markus Geisenberger, manager of the Leipzig Fair. He presented the strategic focus and future vision of the fair: “People and our partners are at the center of our exhibitions. Bulgarian companies can purposefully choose from a variety of niche formats – because the Leipzig Fair focuses on quality and individual solutions,” he said. The continuous participation of Bulgarian companies in the Z – Subcontracting Fair shows how important this platform is for economic exchange. The cooperation with GBITK is of particular value to us – it allows us to be sustainably positioned locally and at the same time to present ourselves effectively on the international stage.”
During her speech, Silvana Kürschner, Procurator and Head of the Business Development Division, presented a number of specialized exhibitions, including “denkmal” and “MUTEC”. Both events are aimed at the restoration and preservation of historical buildings and offer valuable opportunities for Bulgarian companies. In addition, she presented the “Cosmetic Business” and “Intec” exhibitions, which open up additional perspectives in specific industries.
Looking to the future, Leipzig Fair plans to expand its activities in Bulgaria and develop new formats to promote bilateral economic relations.
